The development of shopping activities through social media has created opportunities for impulsive buying, particularly among Generation Z, who are highly exposed to trends, promotions, and digital social interaction. One psychological factor associated with this behavior is fear of missing out (FoMO), defined as an individual’s concern about being left behind from ongoing experiences or trends. This study aimed to examine the relationship between FoMO and online impulsive buying and to analyze the mediating role of self-control among Generation Z TikTok Shop users in Surabaya. A quantitative approach was used with purposive sampling and mediation analysis. The results showed that FoMO was positively related to online impulsive buying, whereas FoMO was negatively related to self-control. Self-control was negatively related to online impulsive buying and mediated the relationship between FoMO and online impulsive buying. These findings indicate that self-control is a relevant psychological mechanism for understanding the relationship between digital social pressure and impulsive buying tendencies. The findings may serve as a basis for developing self-management strategies to address consumption urges arising from the digital shopping environment.
