Abstract

The Qadariahs argue that human beings have independence and freedom in determining the course of their lives. According to qadariah, man has his own freedom and power to create his deeds. In English terms this understanding is known as free will and free act. The Jabariahs think otherwise. Man has no independence in determining his will and actions. Man in this understanding is bound by the absolute will of God. In English terms this understanding is called fatalism or predestination. Human actions have been determined from the beginning by the qadha and qadar of God. This study focuses on how Imam al-Nasafi's interpretation of the verses of Free Will and Limited Human Will and its relation to destiny. The aim is, among others, to reveal holistically-comprehensively about the interpretation of the verses of free will and predestination in the Qur'an from the perspective of Imam al-Nasafi. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. While the type of research is library research. Imam al-Nasafi sees in the matter of free and limited will, that whatever man wants is in accordance with His will. And that Allah wills it for some who know His choice. It may also be said that something happens because of the generality of God's will in all things; whether it is a matter of obedience, immorality, faith, or disbelief. The events that take place in this universe, from the point of view of their occurrence, to a certain extent, at a certain time and place, that is what is called destiny. These events are in the knowledge, provision and decision of God.
