Integration of Islamic Values and Minangkabau Customs in Entrepreneurial Practices
Main Article Content
Abstract
Minangkabau ethnic entrepreneurship is a unique socio-economic phenomenon because it combines Islamic doctrine and traditional traditions simultaneously. Previous studies have tended to separate the analysis between Islamic ethics and local wisdom, so the understanding of the mechanisms of integration of the two in business practices is still fragmented. This study aims to formulate an integrative synthesis of Islamic values and Minangkabau customs in entrepreneurial practice through an integrative literature review approach. The primary data source is in the form of reputable journal articles indexed by Sinta and Scopus published in the range of 2020–2026, with a focus on the traditional philosophy of Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK), matrilineal institutions, and migratory traditions. The analysis was carried out through thematic reduction, cross-study synthesis, and conceptual relationship mapping. The main findings identify three integration mechanisms: (1) ABS-SBK functions as a normative ethical framework that transforms trust into commercial trust capital; (2) matrilineal kinship networks provide social infrastructure for relational risk management and capital access; and (3) the migratory ethos articulates the spirit of capitalism with Islamic work ethics through a parent-sigh mechanism. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of a triadic integration model that maps the reciprocal relationship between transcendental values, social structures, and economic behaviors, as well as the identification of research gaps in the digital dimension of ethno-preneurship that have not been explored empirically. His theoretical contribution is the enrichment of faith-based entrepreneurship perspectives in the context of matrilineal society, while his practical contribution is in the form of a frame of reference for the development of cultural and religious-based entrepreneurship in Indonesia.
